Adobe AI
Adobe AI is a podcasting editing software included with Adobe Audition. The free version allows you to enhance speech, remove background sounds, and remix music. Only the paid (Adobe Premiere) version allows you to remove filler words and pauses by completing a transcript edit. Students at UNC-Chapel Hill can gain access to Audition through their University accounts.
Adobe AI: for Podcast Enhancement
Adobe Audition allows users to:
- Create a podcast
- Record, edit, and synthesize audio clips
- Produce professional quality audio
- Use Remix to re-arrange a song
Features
- Auto-ducking for adjusting music levels during speech
- DeNoise and DeReverb for cleaning up audio
- Podcast “voice” to enhance your speech
How to use Adobe AI
- A group of students is creating a film analysis podcast. They have recorded the podcast and selected background music for parts of their episode. Unfortunately, the music is too loud, overpowering their speech. The students are able to use the AI auto-ducking feature to adjust the music to an appropriate sound level .
- Two students are producing a podcast. They recorded their sound clips separately. One of the clips was recorded in a large room, resulting in audible echoes. The student selects the “DeReverb” option in Adobe AI to remove unwanted echoes and improve the clarity of the audio.
- A student recorded a podcast in their kitchen. The sound of the refrigerator is a constant and distracting background noise. After recording the clip, the student is able to remove this sound by choosing the DeNoise feature in Adobe AI.
Watch out for. . . .
When considering how to integrate Adobe AI into the classroom, be mindful of the following concerns:
- Adobe Audition does not yet have the capability of removing filler words and pauses. Students would need to purchase/access Adobe Premiere in order to solve this issue. Another easier method for getting rid of filler words might be using a web app such as Descript.
- Be sure to check the audio after using DeNoise and DeReverb. While these features are helpful, they do not always work perfectly. Students may have better luck re-recording in a different location.
- DeNoise can remove a constant, background noise but does not detect non-constant sounds (such as a door shutting) as external sounds.
